These Biobased Bar & Chain oils retain their properties under extreme mechanical shear pressure at all temperatures subjected to during use.

Drop In Replacements For Petroleum Bar & Chain Oils

Bio Bar & Chain Oils are Stabilized High Oleic Base Stock (HOBS) vegetable oil based formulas engineered to replace petroleum based (Mineral Oil, Synthetic, Synthetic Blends) Bar & Chain oils and other commercial vegetable oil formulas.

Designed as cost effective Drop In Replacements for petroleum based Bar & Chain oils, Bio Bar & Chain Oils compete in High Performance with synthetic based hydraulic oils, yet, cost lest. Unlike synthetic and mineral oil formulas, biobased Bar & Chain oils are made from sustainable and renewable agricultural plant resources grown in America.

While conventional Bar & Chain oils are not Biodegradable, United Bio Lube's renewable system achieves the highest USDA's rating of 100% Ultimate Biodegradable (ASTM D-5864 PW1) and even improves several performance parameters, not previously attainable.

Moving away from traditional Chainsaw Bar Oil is an important step towards better environmental stewardship. "Chainsaw bar oil is a free-loss lubricant, which means it is expected to end up in the environment when used, When using a chainsaw, up to 0.8 liters of oil per hour can go into the environment, therefore, it's important for the forestry industry and occasional chainsaw users to have an environmentally safer alternative."

Benefits of this new lubricant system include a much higher Viscosity Index (VI), much lower Acid Neutralization Number, superior Oxidation Stability, very low Pour Points and improved Cold Temperature Fluidity - all of which contribute to improved energy efficiency.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils Solve Several Key Problems

Break Down Due To Heat, Water, and Oxidation

Lubricant emulsification is a common problem in many industrial environments.  Water breaks down Bar & Chain oil viscosity, film strength, and hinders additive performance.  Bio Bar & Chain Oils made from Stabilized HOBS are inherently better able to resist emulsification in high-moisture environments than conventional Bar & Chain oils. This resistance to emulsification virtually eliminates problems in outdoor environments, where conventional Bar & Chain oils tend to attract water, causing Bar & Chain oil breakdown.

Mineral Based Bar & Chain Oils Lack Performance Under Extreme Conditions

While many mineral based Bar & Chain oils meet OEM requirements, they often do not meet the more demanding temperature and load requirements of today's equipment. Comparable to synthetic performance, Bio Bar & Chain Oils tolerate both lower and higher temperatures, offer improved Anti-Wear, Anti-Scuffing, Anti-Galling, and Extreme Pressure properties, extend lubrication intervals, and lengthen the service life of moving parts.

Multi-Functional, High Performance Applications

Multi-Functional Bio Bar & Chain Oils are recommended for all types of Bar & Chain equipment commonly used in military, agriculture, forestry, construction, and marine applications.

United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils combine Stabilized2 HOBS1 technology with Anti-Wear Extreme Pressure additives that offer superior protection advantages.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils are engineered for equipment subjected to varying combinations of loads, speeds, and temperatures.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils provide outstanding lubrication and advanced protection in equipment operating under normal loads or heavily stressed conditions.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils form a tacky adhesive lubricating Fluid Film with a low tendency to evaporate and high resistance to water. Bio Bar & Chain Oils are highly resistant to water.

Return On Capital Investment

Our customers are seeking higher performance, new safety features, and a series of Return On Investment (ROI) incentives for switching over to biobased Bar & Chain lubricants made from renewable Green Chemistry.

Engineered with Anti-Friction, Anti-Shock, and Anti-Wear Extreme Pressure protection, Bio Bar & Chain Oils are designed to deliver a measurable Return On Investment by reducing Chain Saw wear and failure rates.

Cost Justification For Selecting Bio Bar & Chain Oils

Green Means Return On Investment

In most Forestry Services and Landscape Maintenance Companies, the relative impact of Bar & Chain Oil purchasing costs on their budget, or net profitability, over the course of a year is relatively minor.

Return On Investment (ROI) is a far better measure of cost justification. Bio Bar & Chain Oils made from Stabilized HOBS present a cost reduction opportunity, delivering a ROI many times over the Purchasing Cost differential incurred from switching to these high performance, multi-functional oils.

The typical Return On Investment from gained operational efficiencies is much greater than the total cost of purchasing Bio Bar & Chain Oils over the course of a year.

No Hidden Costs

There are no extra costs incurred from switching over to Bio Bar & Chain Oils as these oils are fully compatible with existing Bar & Chain system components, seals, and oils.

Eliminates Risks of Contamination

Forestry Services and Landscape Maintenance Companies not using Bio Bar & Chain Oils are operating under unnecessary risk from potential worker contamination. Worker contact with Bar & Chain Oils due to maintenance, leaks, and spills in industry is common; often unavoidable. Worker contamination can come from drips flying off of open Bar and Chains or from simply over pouring the reservoir.

Using United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils eliminates the potential negative health effects on workers or the environment when there is incidental contact with petroleum based bar and chain oils due to naturally occurring events or human error.

Green Means Real Operational Cost Savings

Bio Bar & Chain Oils offer Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) extended performance features, warranty protection, and safety requirements demanded by today's environmentally aware companies.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils offer Forestry Services and Landscape Maintenance Companies a cost-effective way to improve Chain Saw operability, ensure worker safety, and reduce repair expenses.

Collectively, these system wide performance improvements can lead to a positive Return On Investment in capital equipment as measured by:

  • Longevity of Bar, Chain, and other parts and components
  • Improved Chain Saw Operability
  • Extended Chain Saw Service Life
  • Greater Chain Saw Productivity

Maximizes Chain Saw Service Life

Reductions in wear lead to reductions in annual replacement costs of Chain Saw parts and components.

Equipment under high stress benefits from improved Oxidation Stability, Shear Stability, Load Carrying Capacity, Anti-Wear, Extreme Pressure, and Cold Flow properties. Collectively, these performance enhancements lead to Bar and Chain longevity and extended Chain Saw operability.

Less Bar & Chain Oil

Long Lasting Bar & Chain Oil Service Life

A break down in Chain Saw equipment can hold up a job from getting finished on time. Mechanical wear due to surface degradation including mechanical wear and fatigue is common. A high percentage of mechanical wear on the Bar and Chain is due to poor lubricant performance and/or lubricant degradation.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils will not break down under heat, moisture, or heavy loads. These Biobased lubricants are durable under heavy duty, prolonged chain saw usage.

Bio Bar & Chain Oils have superior Anti-Oxidation properties that extends the useful Service Life of the oil. Consequently, these oils need to be applied less frequently.

Less Labor

  • Reduces equipment maintenance and repair expenditures.
  • Reduces annual labor to replace worn bars, chains, and components.

Less Waste

No hazardous waste is generated at any point throughout the manufacturing, usage, or disposal of United Bio Lube's Biobased Lubricants; even used bio lubricants are safe, non-hazardous materials.

Less Vibration

  • Better lubricity provides smoother Chain Saw operation.
  • Smooth operation contributes to less noise and less wear.

Less Harmful

United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils provide the highest level of protection against toxic contamination. Such safety standards are inherently unattainable in pure synthetic lubricants and mineral oils.

The HOBS purity factor provides an additional level of insurance against worker contamination and fire.

Made From Renewable Resources

HOBS Promotes U.S. Oil Independence

United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils were developed in collaboration with Dept. of Agriculture (USDA), Dept. of Interior (DOI), Dept. of Energy (DOE), and Dept. of Defense (DOD) through bipartisan initiatives, lead by senators Thomas Harkin (D, Iowa) and Richard Lugar (R, Indiana), to reduce America's dependency on fossil fuels and foreign oil while promoting rural economic development.

The High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS) program is a cornerstone technology America is deploying to gain Self Reliance, Economic Security, Workplace Safety, and Environmental Protection for the next 100 years.

Stabilized High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS)

United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils are formulated from U.S.D.A. sponsored High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS)2 and processed with stabilized chemistry for:

  • High Performance
  • Assembly Oil Longevity
  • Anti-Oxidation
  • Cold Flow
  • Reduced Oil Thickening
  • Lower Deposits
  • Fire Safety
  • 100% Ultimate Biodegradation

HOBS are specialized commodity vegetable oil crops, i.e. Soy, Sunflower, Canola, and Corn. Once stabilized against oxidation, these basestocks yield the safest, most efficient air tool oils available in today's marketplace.

Note:  United Bio Lube's Green Policy position supports the Hybrid Breeding method for naturally growing Mid and High Oleic Base Stock commodity oil crops.

HOBS Promotes U.S. Green Chemistry Policy

Renewable agricultural High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS) represent a growing Green Chemistry market segment that is directly addressing:

  • U.S. dependency on fossil fuels and foreign oil.
  • Solutions for sequestering CO2 and other harmful green house gases.
  • The elimination of hazardous waste streams from toxic lubricants, solvents, and fuels.
  • The fostering of new renewable, Green Chemistry based marketplaces.
  • The preservation of U.S. manufacturing.
  • The creation of new employment opportunities.

Each of these National Security Interests are inclusive, and in alignment with, the Green alternative energy policies advocated by ApolloAlliance.org, a Ten-Point Initiative for Clean Energy and Good Jobs. ApolloAlliance.org is an strategic alliance of government (U.S. Senators, Congressman, Governors, Mayors) and industry leaders (Labor Unions, Corporate Executives) organized to transition the U.S economy away from a Fossil Fuel dependent Hydrocarbon-based Economy towards a more sustainable, renewable Carbohydrate-based U.S. Bio Economy.

Green Chemistry Life Cycle

Broad use of vegetable oil based lubricants creates a continuous, long term economically sustainable Green Chemistry cycle within the greater U.S. Biobased Economy whereby U.S. industries lubricate and protect machinery and equipment with Stabilized High Oleic Base Stocks (HOBS) grown on U.S. farms.

Most notably, no CO2 is produced in the manufacturing of Bio Bar & Chain Oils. As High Oleic Base Stock (HOBS) vegetable oils are grown and scaled to U.S. commodity crop volumes, harmful Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas is simultaneously sequestered, or 'pulled', from our atmosphere.

HOBS Sequesters CO2 From The Atmosphere

As Soy, Sunflower, Canola, and Corn HOBS commodity crops are grown, harmful CO2 is sequestered, or pulled out of the atmosphere. By scaling out HOBS development across the country, the U.S. can begin to reverse its contributions to the dangerous trend of global warming.

HOBS Provides Unique Cradle-to-Grave Opportunities

United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils can be made from Recycled or Re-refined biobased fluids and oils, such as Bio Hydraulic Fluids or Bio Gear Oils.

Still non-hazardous after usage, Bio Hydraulic Fluids and Bio Gear Oils can be reclaimed and processed into additional biobased lubricant products, i.e. Bio Bar & Chain Oils, Bio EP Greases, Bio Bar & Chain Oils. In turn, these re-refined biobased lubricant products will completely biodegrade as they are expelled into the environment upon usage.

Re-refining biobased fluids and oils into biodegradable Bio Bar & Chain Oils in the Total Loss Lubricant category represents an industry breakthrough in Cradle-to-Grave low environmental impact product lines. Such Green Chemistry solutions represent the future for controlling waste streams from lubricants.

HOBS Protects Against Soil Contamination

The non-hazardous naturally occurring esters found in HOBS are rated Ultimate Biodegradation1 and are renewable, recyclable, and sustainable national resources.

United Bio Lube's Bio Bar & Chain Oils are formulated with a non-toxic Zinc-free additive package with No Heavy Metals and No Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

HOBS are Safe, Non-Hazardous, and Worker-Friendly

Bio Bar & Chain Oils have an additional benefit of being non-toxic to humans.

Meeting and exceeding many OEM specifications, Bio Bar & Chain Oils are preferred over petroleum based products when:

  • High performance is required
  • There is incidental worker contact with the air tool oil
  • Direct exposure to the environment is likely
